The Zululand Energy Terminal (ZET) has launched an Expression of Interest (EOI) process inviting Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors for its proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal at the Port of Richards Bay.
The EOI targets qualified EPC contractors that meet minimum technical and commercial requirements, providing entry into the first stage of a structured procurement process for what is set to become South Africa’s primary LNG import gateway.
Further content is only available for registered users.
The project is intended to support energy security and diversify the country’s fuel mix through increased LNG import capacity.
The EOI marks the first phase of a staged selection framework, progressing through a Request for Information (RFI) and subsequently a Request for Proposal (RFP).
ZET said the process is designed to assess capability, ensure transparency and enable broad participation from qualified industry players.
EPC execution will also be aligned with ZET’s localisation and economic development objectives, with successful contractors expected to support local supplier integration, skills development and the use of local labour across project delivery.
Qualified applicants will be added to the project vendor database and may be considered for shortlisting in later stages as preferred contractors or subcontractors.
