Trelleborg specified for fast-track QatarGas Installation

Trelleborg Marine Systems, the world's leading supplier of fendering, mooring and berthing systems, has supplied Qatargas with three of its parallel motion fender systems for a fast-track project. The installation of the fenders was completed in just four days. Carried out with specialist oil and gas contractor, Qatar Engineering and Construction Company WLL (Q-Con), the installation included two sets of dual SCN1000 cones behind each Parallel Motion Fender Structure.

Tampa Port receives 'A' Rating

The Tampa Port Authority is pleased to announce that New York-based Fitch Ratings has affirmed an 'A' rating of the port authority's approximately $136 million revenue bonds. Additionally, Fitch provided the port authority with a Ratings Outlook of "Stable." In a March 11 release issued by Fitch Ratings, the firm stated that financial operations at the port are stable and are supported by long-term leases and strong minimum annual guarantees in addition to an expanding revenue base—underscoring the port authority's adaptability during the economic downturn.

Emergency status lifted at Lyttelton Port of Christchurch

The Lyttelton Port of Christchurch lifted its emergency status today and moved into the planning phase for long-term rehabilitation of earthquake-damaged facilities and the development of the port. Port facilities were significantly damaged in the 6.3 magnitude earthquake of February 22. "Fortunately the port is extremely resilient in terms of people, infrastructure and facilities, and we've achieved a huge amount in the past three weeks," says Chief Executive Peter Davie.

ABPmer to prepare environmental statement for Green Port Hull

ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd (ABPmer) has been commissioned to prepare the marine elements of an environmental statement in support of Associated British Ports' (ABP) proposed Green Port Hull development at Alexandra Dock, Port of Hull. This follows the announcement in January that Siemens has selected Hull as the preferred location for a new offshore wind turbine manufacturing facility. 

NOATUM names Javier Barajas new Director of Finance

NOATUM, leading maritime and intermodal terminal operator in Spain with interests in container terminals in Bilbao, Valencia, Malaga and Las Palmas, and with plans to expand internationally in OCDE countries, has named Javier Barajas as Director of Finance. The naming of Javier Barajas is added to those of Doug Schultz, CEO, John Thomsen, Chief Operating Officer and Charles Baker, Chief Commercial Officer leading the former Dragados SPL ejective team. With more than twenty years of experience in the area of finance, Barajas has developed his career as financier in several international projects.

Support for victims of the Tohoku district – off the Pacific Ocean Earthquake

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL; President: Koichi Muto) today reported that MOL has begun support activities to help victims of the quake and to help restore their homes and cities. MOL has decided to donate ¥50 million to help support and rescue victims of the quake. Furthermore, MOL executives and employees have organised a charity donation program within the MOL Group of companies, the proceeds of which will be donated to organisations that are working to support victims and rebuild their cities.

Volume growth for Ports of Auckland

Ports of Auckland Ltd has reported growth in container and bulk and breakbulk volumes for the half year to 31 December 2010. The Port is New Zealand's largest import port and manages New Zealand's largest container terminal operations alongside its bulk and breakbulk facilities. Total container volume for the six month period was up 3.4% to 453,498 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units).

New shipping line provides weekly link between Hamburg and the east coast of South America

On 6 March 2011, the container ship Hanjin Chennai docked in the Port of Hamburg for the first time within the scope of the new joint service shared by Hanjin, UASC, COSCO and CCNI between Northern Europe and the east coast of South America. The new ESE service will see six 2500-TEU ships deployed on a weekly basis between Hamburg and the Brazilian ports of Rio de Janeiro, Santos (northbound and southbound) and Itajai.

Paul Smits appointed financial director of Port of Rotterdam Authority

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has a new financial director: Paul Smits, from KPN. Smits (47) studied mathematics and has held various posts during his career at KPN. He was, for instance, responsible for innovation in mobile telephony and for strategy and innovation in the business market. From 2008 to 2010, Paul Smits was CFO for the Business Market section of KPN. Since the start of 2010, he has been managing the Dutch shared service centres of KPN.
