Now that we have a moment to take a breath after the devastating earthquake of 22 February 2011, we'd like to thank all our customers and business partners for their tremendous assistance and ongoing faith in us during these difficult times. To those of you who have suffered personal losses or damage to your homes, may I convey utmost sympathies on behalf of everyone here.  As you will have seen from our earlier communications, we are very pleased to say that there were no injuries at the port on the day of the earthquake, and that all our staff and everyone else onsite were found to be safe. It is with sadness, however, that we report that over 40 of our people have lost their homes, and that there have been sad and stressful personal repercussions from the earthquake.

Dredging International (Australia) Pty Ltd and Van Oord Australia Pty Ltd have been awarded the Western Basin Main Works Dredging – Parcel 5 contract in the Port of Gladstone, Queensland, Australia. The client of this AUD 260 million (€ 190 million) contract is the Queensland Gladstone Ports Corporation. The contract was signed on 4th March 2011 in Gladstone. Dredging International (Australia) Pty Ltd is part of the Belgian Dredging, Environmental and Marine Engineering Group DEME. Van Oord Australia Lty Ltd is part of the Dutch, Rotterdam based, dredging and offshore contractor Van Oord.

The installation of a new suite of navigation simulators has been completed at the all-new Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC) in Cairns, Australia. Installation took place in January 2011 and consisted of a 270 degree DNV Class A full mission bridge simulator, a 180 degree tug bridge, 8 destktop navlab stations with part task simulators for ECDIS training and an instructor station.

A VIP delegation from Indonesia visited the Port of Dover last week (04.03.11) in order to discover how the port plans for the future. Included in the fact-finding mission, hosted by the port, were His Excellency Mr. Yuri O.Thamrin, the Ambassador, and representatives from the Political and Economic government departments and the Defence Attaché. The delegation met with Robin Dodridge, Director of Corporate Operations and visited Port Control and Terminal Control in their tour of the port.

In March 2011 Konecranes acquired the assets and operations of lift truck service company Zeiss Staplerservice GmbH, headquartered in Sommerein, Austria. The company is specialised in lift truck maintenance service, and the sales and rental of lift trucks. In 2010 the company's net sales amounted to more than EUR 3 million. The value of the acquisition is not disclosed.

Port of Vancouver Board of Commissioners has announced the selection of Deputy Executive Director Todd Coleman as the port's next executive director when Larry Paulson retires in April 2012. Paulson announced his decision to step down from the executive director position he has held at the port since 1999 at the board's regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 8.Paulson's announcement was followed by the commission's endorsement of Coleman.  "We are more than confident that Todd's the right person to serve as our next executive director," said Brian Wolfe, commission president. "The board has spent more than a year thoughtfully working through a process to determine how we transition leadership of the port in a manner that's best for the port and the community."

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) today reported consolidated audited financial results for the year ended December 31, 2010 posting full-year revenue from port operations of US$527.1 million, an increase of 25 percent over the US$421.7 million reported last year, Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) of US$247.7 million, up 41 percent from the US$175.7 million earned in 2009, and net income attributable to equity holders of US$98.3 million, 79 percent higher than the US$54.9 million earned last year.
