Tender – Modernisation of ports in the Philippines

The Philippine Ports Authority’s (PPA) is planning to modernise the ports in the country. Part of their medium term plans PPA is considering to install a new vessel traffic monitoring system (VTMS) and to increase capacity at different ports.

Demag Cranes receives order for Mobile Harbour Crane from Chile

Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald), a subsidiary of Demag Cranes AG, has been awarded a contract to supply a G HMK 8410 Mobile Harbour Crane to Puerto Angamos, Mejillones, Chile. The Generation 5 (Model 8) crane will be the largest Gottwald Mobile Harbour Crane for container handling in the Americas.

UK-company QuayQuip comment on the fender market in light of the economic downturn.

The port industry has demanded versatility, something that has proved easier to achieve for small firms than their older, monolithic competitors. This has been borne out as smaller firms have thrived while the 'big names' have been on the wane for several years. Has there been a downturn? Mike Harrison of QuayQuip answers, 'Yes, many large projects have been postponed or cancelled. However other ports are taking advantage of lower construction costs to make long-term investments in their infrastructure.

Cleaner shipping in Gothenburg

Today a further step was taken towards cleaner shipping in Gothenburg. Stena Line will inaugurate a completely new onshore power supply facility for the company's ferries operating between Sweden and Germany. In total, one in three vessels that put into the Port of Gothenburg can now turn off their diesel engines at the quayside and instead use green, onshore power supply.

Port Metro Vancouver Board elects Craig Neeser as Chair

Today, Port Metro Vancouver (PMV) Board of Directors elected Craig Neeser as its incoming Chair effective March 1, 2011. Neeser joined the Port Metro Vancouver Board in August 2009, and is serving his first term of three years, ending August 30, 2012. He served most recently in the positions of Chair of the Major Capital Projects Committee and Member of the Governance/Conduct Committee. Neeser replaces outgoing Chair Sarah Morgan-Silvester, the Province of British Columbia's appointee, whose term of office expires on February 28, 2011.

Vietnam Receives First Super Post-Panamax Quay Cranes

The first two of an eventual total of six Super Post-Panamax Ship-To-Shore (STS) cranes are being delivered this week to Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) in the Cai Mep – Thi Vai port complex located approximately 80kms southeast of Ho Chi Minh City. Six Rubber Tyre Gantries (RTGs) will complete this first shipment with a further two STS cranes and seven RTGs following in mid-February.

Organisations agree to support activities within Savannah River basin

Leaders from the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA) and Lowcountry Economic Alliance (LEA) signed a joint resolution today recognizing that maintaining strong port capacity and deepening both the Savannah and Charleston harbors are critical to the economic health of both the State of Georgia and the State of South Carolina. Additionally, the partners recognize the need to develop the Jasper Ocean Terminal infrastructure.

Port of Sibenik looking for Dutch consultancy firm

The Port of Sibenik Authority, Croatia, is applying for a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in the amount of Euro 12 million for the purpose of financing a civil works contract for the rehabilitation and re-configuration of the port’s passenger berth areas to allow the port to retain and develop further its current tourism and cruise offerings (the "Project").
