Funded through the Fund for Development and Cohesion (FSC) under the Calabria Region’s Development and Cohesion Plan, the 18-month project aims to restore both docks to full operational capacity and improve safety for vessel navigation and port activities.
The works will cover approximately 175 metres of dock frontage, with widths varying between four and eight metres. The redevelopment will establish a uniform alignment and provide a working depth of nine metres, while allowing for potential future deepening to 10 metres.
Infrastructure improvements will also include the renovation of existing facilities and service systems, the installation of new water and electricity networks, a rainwater collection system and additional port equipment.
Paolo Piacenza, President of the Port System Authority, said: “The completion of these works represents a significant achievement and a further concrete sign of the Port System Authority’s commitment to revitalising the Port of Vibo Marina. We are working to restore full efficiency to the infrastructure, improve safety conditions, and make the port spaces increasingly functional to the needs of operators and the port’s development opportunities. Our goal is to build a modern, well-equipped, and competitive port capable of attracting new businesses, supporting existing ones, and generating positive impacts on the local economy.
“Revitalising the port is an integral part of a broader strategy to enhance the region: investing in port infrastructure means creating new growth opportunities, strengthening the relationship between the port and the city, and contributing to the development of the entire Vibo Valentia area and Calabria.”
The project forms part of a wider investment programme covering the five ports managed by the Port System Authority: Gioia Tauro, Crotone, Corigliano Calabro, Vibo Valentia and Palmi.
The programme includes infrastructure rehabilitation, the redevelopment of port areas and improvements to services, with the aim of strengthening the operational capabilities of the regional port network.
