SSA Terminals has launched a procurement plan for 22 battery-electric terminal tractors for the Port of Oakland.
The Request for Proposals (RFP), published on 25 September, covers the supply of zero-emission utility tractor rigs for SSA’s Matson Terminal at the California port.
According to the Port of Oakland’s procurement notice, the project includes the delivery and commissioning of 22 battery-electric units, alongside warranty support, training and implementation services.
Further content is only available for registered users.
The equipment is intended to replace conventionally powered terminal tractors used to move containers within the facility.
The procurement forms part of work supported through California’s Port and Freight Infrastructure Program, which is funding projects aimed at improving the state’s freight infrastructure.
Under the RFP, prospective suppliers are being invited to provide battery-electric zero-emission utility tractor rigs capable of supporting terminal operations at the Matson facility.
The scope extends beyond the vehicles themselves, with the successful supplier expected to provide commissioning services and training to support their introduction into terminal operations.
Warranty and implementation support are also included in the procurement requirements.
