The Port of Bilbao played a prominent role in the 9th edition of the Duero International Grain Exchange, held in Valladolid on Wednesday, 16 September.
The delegation was represented by the Bilbao Port Authority and Uniport, the Basque Multimodal Logistics Cluster, together with their partner companies: Bergé MarÃtima, Bunge Ibérica, Depósitos Portuarios – Deposa, SAPS – Sociedad Auxiliar Punta Sollana and Servicios LogÃsticos Portuarios – SLP, all of which specialise in this sector and have their own terminals in Bilbao. The port representatives had an information stand showcasing a comprehensive portfolio of multimodal logistics services for the agricultural, livestock, agro-energy and food sectors, and for any destination among the 900 or so ports to which Bilbao offers connections.

The event is organised by ACCOE (Spanish Grain and Oilseed Trade Association) and Unistock of Spain (Spanish Association of Port Warehousekeepers of Grains, Cereals and their Derivatives). Around three million tonnes of agri-food and agro-energy products are traded through the Port of Bilbao every year, with soya beans accounting for around 30% of this trade. Other notable commodities include oils and fats, animal feed and fodder, cereals and flours, amongst others.
The Port of Bilbao is also home to a significant number of multimodal logistics service providers for the agri-food and biofuel industries, including specialised terminals, shipping agents, chartering firms, port operations, storage and warehousing, road and rail transport, customs representation, insurers and quality certifiers and packing and packaging.
