Gioia Tauro launches tender to upgrade Ro-Ro berths

The Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port System Authority has approved its 2026–28 operational plan, setting out development priorities across Gioia Tauro, Corigliano Calabro, Crotone, Vibo Valentia, and Palmi.

Paolo Piacenza, President of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Sea Port Authority, said: “With this project, we are determinedly continuing our modernisation, expansion, and specialisation efforts at the port of Gioia Tauro. This strategic project will further increase the port’s operational efficiency, reducing port operations times while maintaining higher safety standards. At the same time, the construction of new infrastructure will help strengthen the functional separation between the container and automotive sectors, creating the conditions for increasingly efficient management of port space and a further increase in handled volumes. The results achieved in recent months, both in the automotive sector and in container connections, confirm the validity of the planning initiated by the Port System Authority. We continue to invest in modern, sustainable, and competitive infrastructure capable of attracting new traffic, generating economic development and employment, and consolidating Gioia Tauro’s role as one of the main logistics and intermodal hubs in the Mediterranean and Europe.”
