The Port of Valencia has become the first port in Spain to implement a passenger border control system compatible with the European Entry/Exit System (EES). This infrastructure, developed by the Port Authority of Valencia (APV), serves as a support point for the Ministry of the Interior in the management of external borders.
The new facility, located in the Port of Valencia, strengthens identity verification procedures, document checks, and passenger services, contributing to a more streamlined, secure, and efficient management of migration flows. The project is 75% co-financed by the European Union through the European Fund for Internal Security (EFIS) and has a budget of 1,174,592.59 euros, including VAT.

Support for border control
The new station consists of a container that has been adapted and equipped for border control operations. The facility features large windows, thermal insulation, lighting, furniture, and state-of-the-art technology for passport scanning and passenger assistance.
Its launch is in line with the APV’s goal of actively collaborating with the Ministry of the Interior and European institutions to improve the management of external borders. Furthermore, this initiative helps advance efforts to prevent, detect, and investigate acts related to terrorism and other serious crimes.
European verification technology
The EES system enables the recording of entry and exit data, as well as instances of denied entry, for third-country nationals crossing the external borders of Member States.
To streamline these procedures, verification, monitoring, and logging tablets have also been introduced, which help strengthen the work of inspection teams and improve the efficiency of border information management. With this initiative, Valenciaport is strengthening its role as a strategic infrastructure and making progress in adapting its facilities to the new European border control systems, combining security, operational efficiency, and institutional collaboration.
