OOCL Wisdom is the chosen name of Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd’s first methanol dual-fuel container vessel. The naming ceremony – marking the start of a seven-vessel series and a step-up in its low-carbon fleet strategy – took place at Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (NACKS), where Cao Yanping, Director of Fujian Yaohua Industrial Village Development Co., Ltd., named the vessel and offered her blessings in the presence of industry guests. At 24,168 TEUs, OOCL Wisdom is the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container vessel.

Tao Weidong, Chief Executive Officer of OOCL, said: “The delivery of OOCL Wisdom not only expands OOCL’s fleet and sets a new benchmark for our vessel technology, but also demonstrates our firm commitment to green and low-carbon development, digital intelligence and sustainability. The ongoing delivery of large, modern and highly energy-efficient vessels represented by OOCL Wisdom will support both the growth of our fleet and continuous upgrades in vessel performance, enabling us to build a greener, more efficient and intelligent shipping network with broader coverage. This, in turn, will allow us to provide more secure, more reliable and more sustainable logistics solutions in support of global trade.”
The ship is fitted with methanol dual-fuel systems across main engines, auxiliary engines and boilers, alongside energy efficiency management tools, intelligent monitoring systems and enhanced safety features.
The combination of these technologies is designed to improve fuel flexibility while supporting emissions reduction targets, as carriers face increasing pressure to decarbonise deep-sea operations.
The delivery of OOCL Wisdom represents a key milestone in OOCL’s fleet renewal programme, which is increasingly focused on larger, more energy-efficient and digitally enabled tonnage.
