“We are delighted to assume responsibility for Wasaline and this vital link between Umea and Vaasa,” says Niclas Martensson, CEO, Stena Line.
In July 2025, Wasaline entered into a bio-gas agreement with Gasum and a Fuel EU Maritime pooling agreement with Stena Line, making the Umea–Vaasa route the first international green shipping corridor.
Wasaline will continue operating its vessel MV Aurora Botnia, which remains owned by Kvarken Link. Wasaline CEO Peter Stahlberg said in the announcement that the deal will be “a major boost for the region”, emphasising the continued focus on environmental performance and service quality in the region.
The acquisition awaits approval from the municipal councils of Umea and Vaasa in November 2025, with closing expected in early 2026.
