PEMA welcomes Sany Port Machinery and Gottwald Port Technology

Sany Port Machinery has become the first Chinese company to join the Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA), along with Germany-based Gottwald Port Technology, further extending the Association's pool of global professional experience. "Given the strength of the Chinese port and shipping sectors, Sany's extensive experience and broad product portfolio make the company an especially valuable source of expertise. We also welcome Gottwald Port Technology – a powerful player in the port equipment market for more than a century," explains PEMA President, Ottonel Popesco.

Port of Gothenburg signs a ten-year concession agreement

The Port of Gothenburg has signed a ten-year concession agreement with the Swedish logistics company Logent, which will operate the Car Terminal at the Port of Gothenburg – Gothenburg Car Terminal AB. "This will reinforce our position as a key partner for the Swedish automotive industry," states Magnus Kårestedt, chief executive of the Port of Gothenburg. The Port of Gothenburg is by far the largest port of export for cars in Sweden. Swedish export successes such as construction machinery, truck chassis and bus chassis are also shipped through the port. Direct routes to other parts of the world make Gothenburg an important gateway for the Swedish automotive industry.

Testing of berths 8 & 9 begins at Felixstowe

The Port of Felixstowe has begun the testing phase of its new deep-water container terminal development known as Berths 8 & 9. The CSCL STAR, the first of five new ultra-large container ships joining the CSCL fleet in 2011, will berth today at the UK's newest container terminal during its maiden voyage from Asia. A limited number of discharge moves will be performed before the vessel moves to its regular berth at the port's Trinity Terminal to complete cargo operations.

Demag Cranes acquires British IT company DB Controls

Through its Dutch IT subsidiary TBA, Demag Cranes has acquired the British company DB Controls, based in Doncaster (South Yorkshire, UK). DB Controls comes with accredited software and consulting competence related to bulk materials automation.

Construction to begin on major terminal modernisation

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has unanimously approved a USD123 million dredging and wharf building contract that officially starts construction of the landmark Middle Harbor Redevelopment Project, one of the largest and most ambitious efforts ever undertaken by the Port of Long Beach. The contract covers the first part of a USD1 billion modernisation and consolidation of two aging shipping terminals into one state-of-the-art container terminal with twice the cargo capacity. The overall project is planned to take nine years. This first part, which includes building wharfs, dredging one slip and filling in another, is expected to start this spring and take 22 months.

PYI sells majority stake in Yangkou

PYI Corporation, the Chinese bulk cargo and port infrastructure group, has sold its majority stake in Yangkou Port. The company agreed to sell its 50.1% to Rudong County Government in Nantong.
