Manufactured by Shanghai Zhenua Heavy Industries (ZPMC), these cutting-edge cranes boast a 45-tonnes safe working load, a 24-meter wheel span, and fuel-efficient engine drive technology. Their recent arrival at the second container terminal marks a pivotal step in KPA’s modernisation agenda. “The arrival of the new cranes will boost efficiency on cargo dwell time and subsequently improve vessel turnaround,” KPA stated.
This latest acquisition follows the successful deployment of four Ship-to-Shore container cranes in 2023, which doubled berth productivity and reduced ship working time.
KPA Managing Director Captain William Ruto has linked the port’s impressive performance to strategic infrastructure development and the adoption of advanced equipment. With these new additions, the authority is confident of handling 1.8 million TEUs by the end of 2024.
KPA has pledged to continue expanding the capabilities of the busy port of Mombasa by investing in technology and infrastructure to maintain its competitive edge in the regional maritime industry.
